Cara: Postpartum Doula Client
My experiences in giving birth, with and without doula support, have led me to have a wish for all birthing people - they have access to a doula, and one as special and talented as Sarah Oakly.
Sarah was my postpartum doula for my third and last baby and I am so thankful for her loving support, smart advice, and excellent doula skills. I wish that I had had her for all three. She is an amazing combination of sound, friendly expertise and watchful guidance to help you and your family. She, without judgment, sees all of you and helps where she sees she is needed. Every family needs that following birth.
During her time with my family, Sarah spent time playing with my older two children. She helped do the little things, like make a bed, sweep, do the dishes, and empty trash. And she nurtured me with amazing food that felt like such indulgent but healthy treats, a beautiful book, a foot massage, and time to sleep as she watched my baby.
I felt so held and cared for and her help gave this extra layer of protection to all of us as we transitioned to being a family of five. One of the most meaningful things was at the end, when our time together was coming to a close. Sarah wrote me a beautiful note tucked into the laundry she folded and it just meant so much.
You can easily lose yourself in a new baby and family, having Sarah as my postpartum doula meant that I wasn’t lost and her support helped me feel the most happiness of any of my postpartum experiences .

This is the first postpartum photo taken of my baby and I. Parents who have had c sections need doulas like Sarah just as much, maybe in some situations, even more. Sarah’s expertise is astounding.
Despite this being my third cesarean birth no doctor, nurse, or anyone had recommended a belly bind to me before. And at Sarah’s suggestion, I asked for one while in the hospital. To my surprise they handed me one right away, I just never knew to ask before.
What a difference a belly bind makes in the car ride home following a cesarean birth! Seriously, Sarah just knows!
